West Lakes home in Natalie Imbruglia’s debut film sells in million-dollar deal

A West Lakes home that featured in Natalie Imbruglia’s leading lady debut film has sold in a million-dollar deal.

The three-bedroom house at 35 Birkdale Grove was snapped up at auction for $1.277 million.

“It was a ll family who had been looking for a little while,” said Ms Auricchio, who sold the property with Nick Carpinelli.

“The majority of prospective buyers were looking to live in it because is it such a well-built home.”

The property featured in the 2009 Australian film Closed For Winter, which was based on the novel of the same name by Adelaide author Georgia Blain, as the family home of Australian singer Natalie Imbruglia.

The movie, which tells the story of a young woman haunted by the childhood disappearance of her sister, was the Torn singer’s first leading film role.

Several areas of the home can be found throughout the movie, including its front exterior, formal lounge, master bedroom, kitchen and double garage.

Steven Nankervis, who sold the property on behalf of his later father, said before auction that it was chosen for the movie for several reasons.

“The stately home was chosen as its 3m high ornate ceilings could accommodate the camera and lighting need for the shoot,” he said.

“It was also in a quiet cul-de-sac, which meant the road could be closed to accommodate the film crew equipment trucks.

“Dad was chuffed that his home was selected to appear in this film and thoroughly enjoyed attending the premiere in Adelaide as an invited special guest.

“Someone else will buy this home and that will be the end of this chapter for us, but this film will serve as a treasured memory of Dad’s, and our, time in the home and it’s something we can put on and enjoy whenever we’re feeling nostalgic.”
